Having high self-esteem and a positive internal narrative are key to our wellbeing. For children and young people it is crucial for their learning. I endeavour to create that positive attitude in my students whilst working with me.
Being dyslexic myself, I know personally some of the struggles pupils encounter, and how their learning, behaviour, confidence, and self-esteem can be affected. Despite receiving support through school, many children still require that bit extra - the right support for their individual needs. For some it is about filling some gaps in their literacy learning, for others it is ongoing academic, behavioural and emotional support. Whatever the reason it is usually initially about mindset, dealing with their anxieties, and increasing self-esteem and confidence.
